iNTRODUCE US!
PiXEL-RETRO.COM, a family project supported by the daily support of my wife and my two little ones. Without you, this project would never have existed.
Mélanie, Lorie and Mégane, I love you XxX.
For my part, Eric, it's not original, but I got the bug when I was 5-6 years old, at the end of the 80s. Thanks to the most famous plumber in the world. I don't remember how I received the legendary Nintendo NES console, but I remember playing it day and night.
I remember convincing my uncle Jocelyn to jump into the first hole of the first level to get an extra life. Obviously it was a joke, Mario died and Jocelyn never played a video game again in her life!
Just like my uncle, my father Benoît was never a gambler. Even for him, video games were a waste of time and money. However, one Christmas in early 1990, a huge and heavy box served as a diversion since he and my mother Sylvie were going to hit a home run. Inside this box was a much smaller box containing:
-
The legendary Legend of Zelda... THE GOLDEN CASSETTE!!!!!!! That my brother Jonathan and I had shouted at the same time. We were in shock, stunned for the count of 10! And above all, far from suspecting that this unforgettable Christmas was not over. The huge box being... huge (I think it was a hot water tank box!) we hadn't seen, but there was another small box that was going to knock us out:
-
007 373 5963 Mike Tyson Punch-Out. It was too much, irritation and euphoria, emotion had taken over. In shock, me and my brother burst into tears of joy! An unforgettable Christmas you say?! A stroke of genius from my parents!
Mom, Dad, Bro. I love you :)
In just one Christmas, the sting had turned into passion. These two new cassettes came just in time because even though the Mario 1 cassette also had Duck Hunt for duck hunting, I had done the trick many (too many!) times!
The games that come to mind afterwards are Contra, Mario 2-3, Blade of Steel, Baseball Star, Faxanadu, Adventure Island which was on the 110 games cassette and Ice Hockey. Only happiness.
Then, the Nintendo Entertainment System (or NES) no longer offered the same pleasure, it lost its luster, it was outdated. Luckily we saw it coming, the ads were everywhere. The revolutionary 16-bit console was on the way. 16 bits, double the original Nintendo!!!! An incredible console, stunning, superb as Serge Vleminckk said describing a birdie!

As with the Nintendo, I don't remember how it came into my life, but the Super Nintendo did. I could play Super Mario World. Indescribable graphics, the discovery of Yoshi, a little green companion, but who could also be blue, yellow, pink, red or white. I was back for hours of fun.
I relived the same emotions as with the previous console. Rediscover Mario, even more beautiful, stronger in a bigger world. Never seen. Speaking of never seen before, what can we say about the discovery of the 3rd opus of the series The Legend of Zelda: A Link to the Past. This game had just reinforced my taste for adventure games, “search” games as my mother used to say. The map, the graphics, the dungeons, the bosses, a 2nd world of darkness. Wow, I envy you, who have never played, for having the chance, even today, to discover this simply perfect game. This masterpiece.
This console was going to exceed my expectations from discovery to discovery. All this before the age of 13:
- NHL 94 (followed by 95 and 96): players of impeccable realism for the time would rock several evenings with friends. The players had the real names of real players in the real NHL. It wasn't on the Sega Genesis, but I did one-timers with Kasparaitis!
